Move the Way you Want

2022. Video (color, sound), media player, screen or projector.
A horse adorned with Uber logos emerges from a Peloton screen and traverses a surreal beachscape scattered with e-scooters, bike shares, and other emblems of the shared economy; intimate devices that track and commodify bodily data such as heart rates and geolocation. The work critiques the seductive veneer of modern convenience and reflects on how technology shapes agency and labor. Created for The Phillips Collection’s Intersections series, the work draws inspiration from historical paintings in the museum’s collection to create an immersive dreamscape.

The work was inspired by paintings of horses in the museum’s collection, such as this 1928 surrealist painting by Di Chirico.
